Land official sued for extortion
An extortion case was filed against a settlement officer of Shyamnagar upazila settlement office Friday night
The accused settlement officer is of Shyamnagar settlement office in Shyamnagar upazila.
Shahadat Hossain of Haibatpur village filed the case against Abul Hossain accusing him for realizing Tk 50,000 from him as toll.
The complainant alleged that he and at least 14 other families have been living at Haibatour mouza in Shyamnagar upazila for the last 40 years. A vested group filed a case with the settlement officer's court claiming ownership of their lands.
Taking the advantage, Abul Hossain demanded Tk 50,000 from them and threatened to record the land in the name of the vested quarters, the complainant alleged.
They gave the land settlement officer Tk 50,000 on August 18, 2006, the complainant said in the case.
Officer-in-Charge of Shyam-nagar police station Abdur Razzak confirmed filing of the case.
The OC also said the accused is absconding as he faces some other cases filed with with Shyamnagar police station.
