Fresh warrants against 6 PWs to appear before court
A police Inspector yesterday submitted deposition in the case for grenade attack on British High Commissioner.
Md Abdul Awal, the then Sub-Inspector of Sylhet Kotwali police station (now OC in Chandpur) in his deposition said he was on duty in the shrine area on May 21, 2004 when the attack was made.
However, none among the rest six prosecution witnesses (PWs) in the case appeared before the court yesterday.
The Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Diproman Sarker fixed January 23 for recording depositions of the rest PWs and issued fresh prosecution warrants against them.
The six include investigation officer of the case Senior CID ASP Munshi Atiqur Rahman, two doctors and two police officials.
So far, 50 out of 56 PWs testified before the court.
Special public prosecutor Fokhruddin Ahmed told the Daily Star yesterday that trial of the case is being delayed as some 'important' PWs including the investigation officer did not appear before the court even after repeated summons.
The tribunal started recording PWs' deposition on August 26.
