Int'l Physics Olympiad '11 starts today
The International Physics Olympiad 2011 will begin at Chualalong University of Bangkok, Thailand today (July 10), says a press release.
Participants from about 90 countries, with Bangladesh taking part for the first time, will compete in the Olympiad.
A five-member team arranged by Oxford International School will represent Bangladesh in the competition that will continue till July 18.
The participants are Abanti Basak from European Standard School, Hasan Shahriar Sifat from Oxford International School, Mahdi Masnad from Rajshahi New Government Degree College, Suborna Saha from Cephalon International School, and Sanjid Halim from Maple Leaf International School.
Accompanying the team are Arshad Momen, a physics professor of Dhaka University and coach for the First Oxford-Daily Star National Physics Olympiad 2011, and Jahangir Masud, a physics teacher of Oxford International School, being the team leader.
The five individual participants were selected in the "18 year old and below" category in the final selection from 50 different schools across the country by a panel of judges from The Daily Star, Bangladesh Physical Society, the Ministry of Education, and the Bangladesh Academy of Science.
