Rice shortage and solution
There was an article about recent food shortage in Bangladesh on the 4 January issue of The Daily Star.
The article says,
Total food grain (rice and wheat) demand: 3.09 crore metric ton
Total food grain production: 2.79 crore metric ton
Shortage: 29.6 lakh metric ton
Let's say if total population is 16 crore,
demand/person/day = 530 grams
available/person/day = 478 grams
So, if we reduce our intake by 53 grams (10%), we should be able to meet our demand with what is available.
Is that too difficult? On an average 530 grams/person/day is a lot of rice we are talking about.
I know if I were the Chief Adviser and I had suggested people to reduce rice consumption, my head would be rolling…
