Charge framing tomorrow

Charges against 11 out of 13 accused of journalist Manik Saha murder case will be framed tomorrow in Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal. Manik Saha, Khulna correspondent of New Age, stringer of BBC Bangla Service and former president of Khulna Press Club, was killed in a bomb attack on Chhoto Mirzapur Road near Khulna Press Club on January 15 in 2004. Sub-inspector Ranjit Kumar of Khulna Sadar Police Station lodged an FIR in this connection on January 17, 2004 naming none as accused. After a series of investigations by different departments, Inspector Chitta Ranjan Pal of the Detective Branch of Khulna Metropolitan Police pressed supplementary charge sheet on December 2 last year. The names of Hai Islam alias Kachi, Shumon alias Nuruzzaman, Akhter Hossain, Ali Akbar Shaon, Bulbul, Sattar, Shawkat Hossain, Omar Faruque, Mithul, Bellal and Sarwar, Mofiz and BDR Altaf are included in the charge sheet. Meanwhile, different organisations including Khulan Press Club yesterday observed the fourth death anniversary of Manik Saha. by laying floral wreaths at martyred journalists' memorial on the press club compound and Manik Saha memorial at Chhoto Mirzapur Road, holding discussion meetings and prayer.
