British lawmakers assure support
The visiting All Party Parliamentary Group for Debt, Aid and Trade (APPG DAT) of United Kingdom assured of advocating in the British Parliament for continuous support for Bangladesh.
The assurance came when the four-member APPG DAT led by Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon called on Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her office in the city yesterday afternoon.
During the meeting, the delegation, a forum of 170 British members of parliament and their peers and chaired by lawmaker Ann McKechin, expressed happiness at the government's enhanced level of efficiency in using foreign aid.
The delegation, currently visiting Bangladesh to oversee the UK DFID funded programmes, expressed satisfaction over the government's various development programmes and enquired whether any gaps existed between the UK fund and the programmes at field level.
Thanking the British lawmakers, Dipu Moni said development funding partners and non-government organisations (NGO) should work with the government in fund allocation and selection of suitable programmes to avoid overlapping and optimum use of resources.
She emphasised that NGO projects should be complementing rather than competing with government programmes.
