Noted educationist Prof Dr Anisuzzaman yesterday said torture and repression on women in the country are increasing day by day due to the lack of practicing social values and progressive ideologies. “A vested quarter in society is trying to bring down the progress of women in fear of losing their supremacy in the stairs to development of the country,” he said. He was addressing a discussion organised by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad at its central office in the city marking the second death anniversary of Hena Das, eminent leader of women rights and the parishad's former president. The parishad President Ayesha Khanom presided over the meeting where its General Secretary Maleka Banu, Joynob-binte-Santu and Nabnita Islam also spoke. Paying rich tribute to Hena Das, Anisuzzaman said society nowadays needs people like her to ensure women's empowerment.
