Death of Prof Nasser
RMCH probe finds no negligence by doctors
Family rejects report
The probe into the death of Rajshahi University teacher Prof Abu Nasser M Saleh did not find any negligence by doctors in his treatment, claimed Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) authority yesterday.
Prof Nasser's family members and friends who made the allegations in street protests, however, rejected the probe report terming it "faulty."
RMCH Director Abdus Sabur Mian in a press conference held at the hospital's conference room said the allegations and newspapers reports about negligence of the hospital authority and wrong treatment by doctors to Prof Nasser were found to be false.
The probe team convener and Medicine department Chairman Dr Khalilur Rahman read out the probe report, but did not distribute it among journalists. Quoting the report the hospital director said Nasser did not inform the on-duty doctors of his chest pain and all possible treatments were given to him.
When contacted, Prof Nasser's son Kazi Hamim Saleh said the probe report was prepared without talking to family members of the victim.
He said Dr Khalil who was also in-charge of the hospital's ward no. 13 where his father died was made chairman of the probe committee and doctors who were also blamed for negligence were included in the probe body, so its report cannot be impartial.
Prof Nasser died on July 4.
