Omnia Vincit Amor
A love letter written and posted by a Pittsburgh girl to her beau (Boyfriend/lover) in February 1958 finally reached California University of Pennsylvania on July 8, 2011. It took 53 years after Vonnie the Pittsburgh girl posted the letter to Clark C. Moore, her lover, enquiring why Moore hadn't called her before he went back to college. The two-page love letter was signed, “Love Forever, Vonnie”.
Omnia vincit amor, a Latin phrase which means in English “Love conquers all”. Yes, the love letter conquered all obstacles to reach its destination but as ill luck, failed to conquer its destiny. Moore and Vonnie although got married later in 1958 but their marriage was broken after eight years. They divorced. They had four children at that time. Interestingly, Moore had by then changed his name to Muhammad Siddeeq after embracing Islam.
Vonnie who is now living in Atlanta declined to discuss about the letter but Siddeeq, 74, living in Indianapolis is much excited to receive the letter. Recalling his young days, Siddeeq said while talking to the press - “Back then, we wrote at least once or twice a week, sometimes three times…..that was before e-mail. It would perk your whole day up to get back in your room and find a letter.”
Omnia vincit amor et nos cedamus amori “Love conquers all; let us all yield to love.”
