Block Watch
Crimes are increasing day by day in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, little initiatives have been taken to combat crimes. To prevent crimes, there is an initiative we can take, that is Block Watch or Neighbourhood Watch. It is a concept widely used in the USA. It is a system to combat crimes in a particular area.
A Block Watch or Neighbourhood Watch is an organised group of citizens devoted to prevent crimes and vandalism within a neighbourhood. A neighbourhood watch may simply be a function of a neighbourhood association or other community association. We can combat crimes in our society by taking this concept.
If we observe the crimes that are being committed we will see that these are being committed mostly by the youths. A lot of crimes involving youth is bred from sheer boredom. We, with the help of our neighbours, can give those unemployed youths, physically challenged persons, poor, or elderly persons a job of watching. The joy of helping someone will overcome the thrill of committing a crime against someone.
If there is financial problem for young adults, which is also a reason for their crimes, we as a unit can help them from this Block Watch. Block Watch can play a vital role in combating crimes. Most of the people in our country don't know about the concept of Block Watch. In this case, government can promote this concept.
