Ban on female drivers

Concerned, Dhaka
Banning women from driving is a cultural issue, and not a religious one. There is no evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah which justifies this. Therefore, KSA must present a logical basis for this cultural practice. A few Islamic thinkers (one was interviewed by CNN) hold the opinion that we should not interfere in the affairs of other nations. While I do agree that Saudi Arabian women must decide whether they want to protest the ban or not, I also believe that we should speak up against absurd cultural practices. If these thinkers are speaking up against certain cultural practices of the West, why are they not doing the same when it comes to Arab states? Moreover, is it not wrong to “prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you (Qur'an 5:87)?”
