Here are some comments that came in response to Sunday's The Daily Star report headlined “BSF told to hold fire”.

We saw this kind of commitment from India but every time they seem to mock us. Govt. should stand strongly against the killing because it is the violation of international law. India should understand that this kind of killing will tarnish their image also. Wahidul Karim
India-Bangladesh cross border killing is the highest rate in the world and all of those who have been killed are Bangladeshis. India has told us many times that they would not kill any more Bangladeshi and every times they have broken their own oath. Thus, if anyone believes their oath then it would be their foolishness and we general Bangladeshis are not among them who believe their oath. Mohammed Shah Alam Khan
This is nice press conference and the declaration, but we doubt about the implementation of the policy. Regarding firing in the border Indian Government issued strict instruction to stop fire if anyone trying to cross border from any side. Now the BSF through stone throwing shall kill Bangladeshi people in border area. Anonymous Bangalee
BSF has been asked to hold fire. That means they will not use gun to kill unarmed Bangladeshis. But there are other ways to kill a man and some of them have been used by BSF. They can use stick, machete, arrows, spears, brickbats and many other weapons. Nothing has been said about those. So, BSF can still kill Bangladeshis. Nasarullah
We had seen many BSF meetings on this issue over the last couple of years but outcome was not much expected and there have been many innocent killings going on.. With this agreement, we hope the BSF would show more tolerance, restrain and respect and make all possible avenues to refrain from shooting and apprehend the trespasser or intruders for trial.
