The main opposition BNP has declared countrywide demonstration for today, protesting the Monday's attack, which it says "pre-planned", on the motorcade of the party's acting secretary general in Laxmipur. The party will bring out processions and hold rallies across the country to protest the attack on the motorcade of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during his visit in Laxmipur. “It was a pre-planned attack and local Awami League leader Abu Taher's squad was behind of the incident,” BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said at a press briefing that was convened to declare the protest programme. Alamgir's motorcade came under attack while passing the residence of Abu Taher, mayor of Laxmipur municipality, but Alamgir escaped unhurt, as his car was not damaged. Ten people received minor injuries in the attack while two cars and three motorbikes were vandalised. The BNP leader went there to attend a protest rally organised by the local unit.
