Donors to get tax rebate: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government would allow tax rebate on the donations to promote the health and education sectors.
She made the disclosure when the newly elected executive committee of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) led by its president Prof Mahmud Hassan and honorary secretary Prof Kanak Kanti Barua met her at the PMO in the morning.
The prime minister reiterated her government's strong commitment to ensure all basic needs of the people, including the right to quality health facilities.
When the BCPS delegation sought financial help for their organisation, Hasina advised them to raise fund by themselves without solely depending on the government.
She said financial support that would be given for the development of health and education sectors will be exempted from tax, informed the PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad.
She mentioned the various steps taken by her government for the development of the health sector.
She said her government during its 1996-2001 rule had for the first time established community clinics in the country to reach healthcare to the rural people but those were later closed down by the BNP-Jamaat government on political ground.
The present government, however, has restarted over 10,000 such clinics for the greater interest of the mass people, she added.
Hasina also listed other measures taken by her government including infrastructure development of different government hospitals.
She said since taking the office, the government has been appointing new doctors and nurses to ensure best healthcare for the people.
The delegation told the PM that their organisation is providing FCPS and MCPS degrees to the doctors maintaining international standard. So far, 2,000 doctors obtained degrees from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). Besides, they also impart training to the doctors in different fields to create expertise in the country.
The BCPS team invited the prime minister to attend the 11th convocation of the college in October or November.
