Hi-tech eye training centre opens in Gazipur

A training centre of mid level ophthalmic personnel (MLOP) was opened at Karamtola Christian Hospital in Gazipur yesterday. Lee Jung Wook, resident representative of Koica-Bangladesh, inaugurated the training centre. The training center has been established with the financial assistance from Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) and Korean Heart to Heart Foundation. The training centre is equipped with modern facilities related to mid level ophthalmic personnel training such as well furnished class room, necessary MLOP equipments, library and a computer Lab. The training center officially resumed its journey from yesterday with 25 students in the first batch and the training period is 1 year for each batch. As the chief guest, Koica Resident Representative Lee Jung Wook said approximately 1.5 million people are blind and more than 5 million people are suffering from serious eye disease in Bangladesh. If they can get basic eye care service at the beginning stage, they could avoid serious eye disease, he said. Chairman of Korean Heart to Heart Foundation Shin In Sook and Director of Karamtola Christian Hospital Park Mu Yeol were present on the occasion.
