Two held on charge of killing Meherpur schoolboy
Police yesterday arrested two persons allegedly involved in slaughtering a nine-year-old schoolboy in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
The arrested are Tahaj Uddin, 50, and Abdul Malek, 48, both neighbours of the boy Iran, son of slain Emdadul Haq. Iran's body was found in a field at Dhala village of the upazila on Friday.
Both arrestees are also accused in a case over the slaughtering of Emdadul, an elected member of Dhola Union Parishad, and his two brothers, whose bodies were found near their residence during Ramadan in 2008, said police.
Police and family sources said Emdadul had a longstanding feud with local criminal gang Dukhu Bahini.
A total eight people including the gang chief Dukhu, Kalu, Naharul and Hitu of the same village were accused in Emdadul's murder case. Dukhu has never been arrested while the others obtained bail from High Court in 2009, said police.
