Dhanmondi House

Rehana allowed to withdraw writ

The High Court yesterday allowed Sheikh Rehana to withdraw her pending writ petition that challenged the BNP-Jamaat alliance government's action of taking over the House No # 21 of Road No # 6 at Dhanmondi in the city to make a police station. The previous Awami League government in July 2001 allocated the house for Rehana, younger daughter of slain president Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The BNP-Jamaat alliance government took possession of the house and turned it into a police station in June 2005. Rehana filed a petition with the HC recently for withdrawal of the writ petition. The HC bench of Justice Mohammad Bazlur Rahman and Justice M Enayetur Rahim allowed the petition, appreciating her for her “good gesture” of sacrificing the property for the people.
