Azharul's Remark
HC order on writ petition today
The High Court yesterday fixed today for passing order on a writ petition that challenged a remark of ATM Azharul Islam, acting secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, "undermining" the Supreme Court.
Azharul said at a press conference at their party office on July 19 that the government scrapped the caretaker government system by exploiting the Supreme Court.
On July 25, Prof Wahiduzzaman Chan, a teacher of Dhaka University, filed a writ petition seeking directives on the government for legal action against Azharul.
The bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore kept Azharul standing in the courtroom for around two hours during the hearing.
