A smile to your brother is a charity
The greatest prophet of all times Muhammad (SM) has said, "A smile to your brother is a charity". Majority of the Bangladeshis pride themselves on being devout Muslims, many of whom perform holy hajj and umrah every other year.
Strangely enough, one shall hardly come by a smiling Bangladeshi, I wonder why? Rudeness and arrogance have become a part and parcel in the everyday life of a Bangladeshi. I am quite sure poverty is not to be blamed for this rudeness, as many a Bangladeshi happens to make more money than a common American does.
So far I have not come across a single person without a smile here in Houston, Texas. Wherever I have been to, be it a grocery store, a shopping mall, an NGO or a government office, everywhere I was greeted upon with a smile and this reminded me of what the great prophet had said.
What has become of us? Why are the people so rude to one another? Are all the 160 million people of Bangladesh devoid of this teaching of the great prophet that the people here in west practice in their everyday life. May the Almighty kindle the light of knowledge among the 160 million people of Bangladesh, without which all our prayers and fastings shall go in vain.
