High alert in Benapole, Bhomra

Benapole border in Jessore and Bhomra border in of Satkhira have been put on high alert to check entry of poultry from India, said Md Abdul Hai, Deputy Director of Khulna divisional office of Livestock Department. “We have taken this step with effect from Thursday (January 18) in view of outbreak of bird flu disease in some districts in West Bengal”, he said. Hai said all precautionary measure had been taken along the Indo-Bangladesh border at Benapole and Bhomra where several teams are working in cooperation with law enforcers to check entry of chicks from India. The surveillance teams are submitting daily reports on their findings. The teams are visiting poultry farms in f these two border areas off and on to detect bird flu. “Except a case in Jessore, all other nine districts under my jurisdiction in Khulna division are still free of bird flu”, he said. Abdul Hai said surveillance teams of his department working in border areas spray disinfectants in vehicles entering Bangladesh from India as preventive measures.
