Smugglers snatch timber vehicle from BDR in Juri
A gang of smugglers yesterday snatched a pick-up van loaded with timber from BDR at Dakshinbhag Bazar on Kulaura-Baralekha road in Juri upazila.
The smugglers also allegedly manhandled two BDR personnel who tried to intercept the vehicle.
According to witness and Juri BDR sources, the vehicle was going to Baralekha from Kulaura.
Tipped-off, two BDR personnel from Juri company headquarter reached Dakshinbhag Bazar in a motor-bike to capture the pick-up van.
Traders Tajul Islam, Nawruz Ali and Siraj Uddin at Dakshinbhag Bazar told this correspondent that when the two BDR men came to the spot, about 200 people cordoned and beating them. The smugglers escaped with the vehicle.
Lt. Col. Lutfur Rahman, commander of 38 BDR Battalion said, he was informed of the incident.
