Admit lawyer Ahmed to any public hospital
HC asks govt
The High Court yesterday directed the government to immediately admit detained pro-BNP lawyer MU Ahmed to any public hospital, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for better treatment if necessary.
Ahmed, who has become sick after his arrest on August 11, is now undergoing treatment at the Square Hospital in the city.
Ahmed is accused in two cases filed on charges of assaulting police and obstructing them from discharging their duties on the Supreme Court premises on August 2 and 4.
The HC direction came following a writ petition filed by Selina Ahmed, wife of MU Ahmed, seeking its directive on the government to send Ahmed abroad for better treatment.
The petitioner claimed that Ahmed was tortured after his arrest from Segunbagicha residence which led to his sickness.
Following the petition, the HC yesterday also issued a rule upon the government to explain in four weeks why it should not be directed to send Ahmed abroad for better treatment.
Selina filed the petition yesterday with HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif.
