Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Sakhawat Hossain has said the government will publish draft demarcation of constituencies on the basis of density of population by June for the next general election to be held this year. Speaking as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting with the officials, elites and journalist at the conference room of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Bishwabidyalaya in Trishal upazila on Sunday, the election commissioner said the number of constituencies in Mymensingh district will come down from 12 to 11 after new demarcation of the constituencies. For participating in a local government's election, a candidate should first quit the posts of political parties or in any other institution, he said, adding that holding two posts at a time by an elected representative hampers his work and affects neutrality. Earlier he visited Mathbari High School and Mathbari Primary School centres to observe the ongoing work of voter registration. He talked with the people coming for registration as voters, who told the election commissioner that the proper system of voter listing would ensure fair election. Vice Chancellor of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Bishwabidyalaya Prof Dr Shamsur Rahman, Deputy Election Commissioner Md Ekram, District Commander of Joint Forces Lt Col Kabir Hossain, Additional district Magistrate Nazmul Hasan Khan, District Coordinator of Voter List and ID Card Project Maj Rashed Majhar and District Election Officer Rashedul Islam also attended the meeting presided over by Trishal Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mizanur Rahman.
