UNO asked to go by land documents
Khagrachhari district administration has taken initiative to resolve the land dispute between indigenous and Bangalee communities at Maidhya Karalachhari in Mohalchhari upazila in the district.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Monindra Kishor Majumder yesterday ordered Mohalchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abul Hossain to examine documents of the disputed lands and solve the problem by tomorrow (January 24), official sources said yesterday.
The ADM also asked the UNO to issue a show-cause notice on the Headman (village chief) in the area to explain why he did not informed the administration in time when the problem cropped up. Legal action should be taken against the Headman if the answer is not satisfactory, according to the ADM's order.
The ADM also requested Khagrachhari police superintendent to deploy police there to avert any untoward incident.
When asked, UNO Abul Hossen said the situation is now under control and he is talking to leaders of indigenous and Bangalee communities in the area to resolve the problem peacefully. He hoped he would be able to give a 'fruitful result' by January 24.
Meanwhile, Mohalchhari police on Monday filed a case accusing Keyangghat Union Parishad Chairman Bisshajit Chakma and five others for their alleged involvement in axing trees on lands claimed by Bangalees.
Sub Inspector Ashok field the case, sources said.
At a press conference yesterday at its Kalabagun office in Khagrachhari town, Parbattya Chattragram Somo Adhiker Andolon (PCSAA) leaders demanded arrest and punishment of those trying to destroy communal harmony and peace in Maidhya Karalachhari. They demanded arrest of the alleged land grabbers.
They claimed that the trouble makers have felled at least 3,000 trees in the area to grab lands given to Bengalees b by government.
They said Bangalees want to live peacefully with other communities and urged the government to take steps to maintain peace in the hills.
Former lawmaker Alim Ullah and other PCSAA leaders addressed the press conference.
