Road crashes kill 5

Five people were killed and three others injured in road accidents in Rangpur, Manikganj, Chittagong, and Natore yesterday. A Rangpur correspondent reports: Two people were killed and three others injured in a bus-truck collision on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Balabari of Taraganj upazila yesterday. The deceased are Dinesh, 45, and truck helper Kamrul, 35, of Pannerdighi. The truck driver, Afzal, was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Our Manikganj correspondent says: A school student died after being run over by a bus at Khan-Khanapur intersection on Daulatdia-Khulna highway in Rajbari sadar upazila yesterday. The victim is Abdul Ali, 18, son of Fazlul Haque of Alipur village of the upazila. Abdul, a student of class IX, was riding a bicycle when the accident occurred. Our staff correspondent from Ctg adds: A minor boy was killed after being run over by a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Jora Amtal under Sitakunda upazila yesterday. The victim, Sajjad Hossain, 7, son of Sekandar Hossain of the area, died on the spot. Officer-in-Charge of Sitakuinda Police Station Nur Mohammad said locals caught and heavily beat the trucker, Anwar Hossain. Police rescued Anwar and sent him to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, he added. Our Natore correspondent says: A fisherman died on the spot as a truck overturned by a roadside ditch he was fishing at in Manikpur of Baraigram upazila yesterday. The deceased was Mayez Uddin, 40, of Bazitpur village under the upazila.
