BCL factions clash in Sylhet
Five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League were injured in a factional clash in Sylhet city yesterday.
The injured including Sylhet unit BCL Sports Secretary Rajib Paul were admitted to different city hospitals.
Two BCL factions of Bidhan Kumar Saha and Ranjit Das locked in a clash when a procession by the local Awami League (AL) unit was passing the Al-Hamra shopping mall area. The clash later spread around Chouhatta and Zindabazar areas.
Local sources said the clash ensued as activists of the two factions failed to unite over making a counter attack on the said shopping mall, from which some bricks were pelted on the procession.
The mall is mainly owned by Pro-Jamaat businessmen, locals added.
Later, the procession, brought out to voice against the Jamaat-BNP alliance's wrongdoings, ended in the city's Shaheed Minar.
Earlier, another rally was held in the Court Point area with district AL Chief ANM Shafique in the chair. Lawmaker Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury, acting city Mayor Shahana Begum and district AL General secretary Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, among others, addressed the rally.
