BNP's rally on Naya Paltan office premises Sep 27
BNP's scheduled rally in the capital on September 27 will be held on the road in front of its Naya Paltan central office, as the authorities did not allow holding it at Paltan Maidan.
Chairperson of the party Khaleda Zia is likely to announce at the rally anti-government agitation programmes for realising its demands including restoration of caretaker government system for holding general elections
“We applied for Paltan Maidan [for holding the rally]. But the government did not allow us to do so. This proves the ruling Awami League does not believe in people's democratic rights,” BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a press briefing at the party office yesterday.
Fakhrul said the rally will now be held in front of the party central office, and it is going to be an important one because of the prevailing political situation. He hoped the government will cooperate in holding the rally peacefully.
Replying to a query regarding Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam's recent remarks that BNP is trying to foil war crimes trial in the name of a movement, he said AL raises this issue only to escape the wrath of people for its total failure to run the country.
