World Tourism Day Observed
Call to approve Patenga sea beach project
Speakers in observance of the World Tourism Day here yesterday said Chittgaong has the potentiality for developing tourism as an industry but it is yet to be achieved due to lack of government's initiative.
To mark the day, Hotel Agrabad and Well Park Residence organised separate procession and discussion programmes with a slogan 'Tourism-linking culture' on their respective premises in the port city.
Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam inaugurated a discussion at Hotel Well Park Residence as the chief guest with Well Group Executive Director Syed Sirajul Islam Kamu in the chair.
Manjur Alam said a project worth Tk 86 crore has been submitted to the Ministry of Tourism for development of the Patenga sea beach as a modern tourist spot.
He urged the government to approve the project for extending the tourism industry in the port city.
Before the discussion a colourful procession was brought out and a blood donation programme was also held in the hotel area.
Chittagong Press Club President Abu Sufian, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation unit Manager Md Saifur Rahman, Well Group Director Asif Hasan, Fatema Begum Red Crescent Blood Center In-Charge Dr Md Minhaz Uddin Taher and Well Park General Manager S M Sahab Uddin spoke at the programme.
To mark the day, a procession was also brought out from Hotel Agrabad premises that paraded the hotel area.
Meanwhile, RU correspondent reports: Teachers and students of the Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday observed the World Tourism Day on the campus.
Around hundred students and teachers of the university brought out a colourful rally jointly organised by Tourism Society and Animal Science department of the university.
Later at the rally, speakers said Bangladesh is the most feasible country in the world to gain high economic growth in the tourism sector.
They urged the government to take initiatives to protect and preserve the natural resources of the country that would help to expand and develop the tourism sector.
Prof Sadequl Arefin Matin, general secretary of RU Teachers' Association, Borak Ali, assistant proctor of RU, Prof MA Mannan, Anisuzzaman Mohammad Saleh Reza, KM Rabiul Islam, Fazlul Karim Kanchan and Ariful Hasan addressed the programme while Nazrul Islam, the convener of Tourism Society, presided over it.
