Road crashes kill 6

Six people, including a child, were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Manikganj, Madaripur, Dinajpur and Natore on Wednesday and yesterday. Our Manikganj correspondent reports: A man was killed on the spot when a bus of Village Line Paribahan hit him while he was waiting for a bus for going to Dhaka at Jhitka Bus Stand of Harirampur upazila in Manikganj yesterday. The deceased is Maznu, 37, of Uzanpara village of Gopinathpur union of the same upazila. He worked as a press worker in Dhaka. The body was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Our Madaripur correspondent says: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Sadar upazila yesterday. In the first accident, motorcyclist Babul Mridha, 32, son of Abdul Majid Mridha of Shibchar upazila, was killed after a triangle collision of a truck, nasimon and motorcycle in Chhilarchar area. In another incident, a housewife Rashida Begum, 35, wife of Ali Akbor of Rajoir upazila, was killed when a speedy truck run over her while she was crossing the Dhaka-Barisal highway in Kolabari area of Sadar upazila. Following the accident, agitating locals barricaded the highway for three hours. They withdrew the barricade after construction of a speed breaker on the spot. Police seized the truck along with its driver. Our Dinajpur correspondent adds: Two people, including a child, were killed and another was injured in two separate road accidents in Joypurhat on Wednesday and yesterday. Sabbir Hossain, 6, son of Ismail Hossain, of village Dhanmondi of the town was killed and his grandmother injured when a sand-laden speedy truck hit them while they were crossing the road at Batamore of Joypurhat town. The injured grandmother Renuka Banu, 55, was admitted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital. In another accident, Based Ali, 51, a former union parishad member of Khetlal upazila, was killed when a shallow-run three-wheeler hit him on the Joypurhat-Bogra highway in Hitchmi area on Wednesday afternoon. Our Natore correspondent says: A housewife was killed on the spot when a speedy truck hit her from behind while she was crossing the bypass road in Kandivitua area on Wednesday. The deceased is Shanaz Begum, 32, wife of Golam Hossain, of Kandivitua of the town.
