4 more docs sacked

Bss, Dhaka
The government has sacked four more doctors posted at different public health facilities in the past several days to total the number of sacked government physicians to eight in the current month as part of a tough campaign against illegal absence of doctors at workplaces. “The eight doctors were sacked in the past one month while the routine pay hike of 11 others were stopped for one-year for their illegal absence in workplaces,” a health ministry spokesman told the news agency yesterday. He added that investigations were underway against a number of doctors on receipt of allegations that they continued to remain absent at different government hospitals and health complexes around the country. The spokesman's comment came two days after an official statement that announced dismissal of four physicians on identical grounds. The four doctors who lost their jobs were former lecturer of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital Dr Menka Pasha, former medical officer of Faridpur Upazila Health Complex Dr Joyanta Prasad Kar, former assistant surgeon of Gorai Union Health Complex of Tangail Dr Abeda Sultana and officer on special duty at Health Department Dr Paru Ghose. Officials said the actions against the doctors were taken under the Government Employees (discipline and appeal) Rules-1985. The four other doctors whom were earlier sacked were former medical officer of Bhandaria Health Complex of Pirojpur Dr Khawaza Abdul Based Aminuzzaman Chowdhury, former medical officer of Manikchhari Health Complex of Khagrachhari Dr Nupur Kanti Das, former medical officer of Gajaria Upazila Health Complex of Munshiganj Dr Rinku Biswas and former officer-in-charge of the Department of Health Dr Md Humayun Quader.
