Call for sharing knowledge among world universities

Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique has said the cross-border relationship should be more strengthened for the entire development of the education sector. Exchange of academic knowledge and views among the universities of different courtiers will help both the students and teachers flourish their talents more, he said. He told the inaugural session of two-day NUFU-Noma Regional Conference at a city hotel on Tuesday. Both NUFU and NOMA are Norwegian programmes for development, research and education. Because of advancement of information and technology, all the countries are heading forward for information technology based education. So, we should more emphasise such strategic education system, he said. Praising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for placing six-point multi-dimensional peace model at UN General Assembly, he said it would strengthen Bangladesh's diplomatic ties with the external world. Addressing the function, Prof Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, vice-chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, said sharing of findings from researches and research-based higher educations are the key way to achieve expected development in education sector. Ragne Birte Lund, ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, said international economic crisis, climate change and conflict resolution are top challenges to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. So, a joint cooperation should be launched to address the issues, he said. The regional conference ended on Wednesday with a concluding remark of Prof Shaikh Abdus Salam, former chairman of Mass Communication and Journalism department of Dhaka University. Apart from Bangladesh, delegations from seven countries--Norway, Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia--attended the conference.
