The Little Jewels Infant Nursery and Junior School celebrated its 56th anniversary and held a reunion at the Ladies' Club in the city yesterday, says a press release. Sonia Imran, the administrator or director of the school, addressed the guests at the ceremony, expressing her honour of being an ex-student. She said, “This school is probably one of the oldest private institutions to have crossed 56 years and this was because of the relentless efforts of the administrative body and the teachers”. She ended by congratulating the alumni of the 2000-2010 graduating batches for having organised and pulled off the entire event successfully. The ex-students presented bouquets on behalf of the alumni association to Anwari Kabir, the founder principal; Sabera Syed, the adviser; and Yasmin Khan, the vice principal. Anwari Kabir said, “It is the joy of my heart to have united with you in the celebration of the 56th year and the grand reunion of the Little Jewels School.” A prodip nritto, group dance performance, marked the beginning of the cultural programme, which included a short drama and ended with a concert by bands of former students. Little Jewels School was founded on August 8, 1956 with 56 students and six teachers by Anwari Kabir. The school now has two sections, English and Bangla, with over 1200 students and 120 teaching and non-teaching staff.
