It does not matter whether the Election Commission is recast or not. It will still be under the government's control. The main thing to be done is to create a level-playing field. Jiasmin Khan
Thanks, PM, for your concern about Jamaat and Shibir. As a member of a freedom fighter's family, I would like to request you to ban Jamaat and Shibir like it was done in 1972. They have committed war crimes and still they have a good relation with Pakistan. They have already cast an evil eye our young generation. Mohammed Shah Alam Khan
This is a nice statement that she will reconstitute the EC through discussions with all, but I don't believe she will do it. Hasina and Khaleda say something and do quite the opposite thing. What they say and do are never the same. Dr Islam
The present stand of the two parties about CTG will definitely lead to further chaos and uncertainty. Their attitude is not pro-people or pro-democracy. The party in power should take more initiatives and responsibility to sit with the opposition and discuss. Anonymous expatriate
The PM said that the door is open for dialogue but she did not say how they would arrange that. I think Khaleda Zia can not protect the war criminals so long as the International Crime Tribunal is impartial. When the PM says that the election will be held without a caretaker government, she should think about the consequences. The whole nation except the AL wants the election to be held under a caretaker government. Election under political government in the present political condition is not desirable. Faqrul
Thanks to the prime minister for taking the correct line to reconstitute the election commission through discussion. We hope the reconstituted election commission would enjoy full power and authority. I fully support the proposal of the prime minister provided that she makes the Election Commission creditable and effective through discussion. I think the prime minister needs the support of the media to achieve her plan. Raihan Sharif
Fine words, but does the PM have any credibility? After the way the caretaker government system was removed, the way the PM has silenced her MPs, who will believe in mere words? The PM has to be a national figure, not a party person, and she has singularly failed in this aspect. Shaheena Chowdhury Shilpi
If the PM is sincere, then she should restore the caretaker government system and hold discussion with the opposition about possible replacement of Khairul Haque as head of the next caretaker government. Fida Likhon
It is possible to hold election under an elected government only when the EC is completely free from the government's control.
