The Metro Rail project
The proposed Dhaka MRT project is now facing a problem as the Air Force has raised an objection to part of it which will run along the two-lane Bijoy Sharani on the vacant land to the north of this avenue. According to the Air Force, that part of the MRT will be too close to the old airport to pose potential risk to the taking off of its aircraft. The height of the MRT will be twelve meters. On the south side of the Bijoy Sharani stands the Bangabandhu Planetarium with a height of 22 meters. The Air Force has no objection to its existence.
So what can be done is Bijoy Sharani may be shifted to the north using the vacant land, supposed to be used by MRT, to build one of its two lanes. This will make a space (the abandoned lane) available for MRT to run along the south side of the avenue, the side on which the planetarium stands. In that case, the army museum may need to sacrifice some lands for the project.
