Caretaker government issue
The low-profile role of the government during the grand rally of the Opposition political party made us think that the Awami League-led government has realised the sentiments of the people.
But no, we were mistaken, it was only a ploy, the AL has not moved a bit from its stance about the caretaker government. The opposition political parties demanded that the next general election must be held under a neutral caretaker government and we thought that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would agree to it. But she clearly said on October 1 that the next general election would certainly be held without a caretaker government, and BNP will have to participate in the election if it is to remain in politics.
We are surprised by this declaration. It was Sheikh Hasina's demand that the election should be held under a caretaker government. People have not forgotten the time when Awami League was demonstrating to compel the BNP government to implement it.
Why does Awami League suddenly want to abolish it? Has it become clear to them that if the election is held under a neutral caretaker government, they will surely lose? That must be the case; people cannot find any other reason behind this unjust declaration. People will not tolerate this.
The election must be held under a neutral caretaker government, otherwise people will not go to the polling centre. The government must come to an understanding before it is too late.
