Says metro rail route won't be allowed to run through Sangsad Bhaban complex
(October 6, 2011) Thanks to the speaker for his attempt to save the architecture of JS. Hope PM will agree with him.
Jiasmin Khan This is not a matter for the speaker. His job is to create an environment where both ruling and opposition can come to discuss national matters. This is ridiculous. BAF has a legal reason. Can we provide BAF with another airport if this one becomes non-operational?
Anonymous Thank for this news. We will be grateful if Speaker Abdul Hamid can convince PM to keep the line through Bijoy Sarani. We don't want to see the JS harmed. This is the place for the people's leaders who rule the country. This place must not be underestimated by the Air Force or any other agency. The JS must be unaffected.
Khaleda Khan It looks like BAF is adamant to throw a spanner in the wheel. It has been suggested again and again by some experts that the runway be extended to the north with required space to bring ease to both BAF's flight path and the city dwellers ever-growing traffic. What is the problem with BAF? And what is the problem with the highups of the government? Why this submissive attitude?
Shubhro Ahmed Defence forces and their beneficiaries shouldn't forget that everything is running from taxpayers' money and this is a democratic society. Also, the army should change their role to a people-oriented one, rather than act like a parasite. Viewpoints and philosophy should change from what they were in the last few chaotic decades. The nation is already burdened with a lot of problems
Dr Karim The Hasina government has capitulated to Air Force's unwarranted pressures. It wouldf harm the JS complex. Speaker's unyielding stand of not giving in to the Air F orce's demand is heartening for us. If other institutions demur regarding their installation, would Hasina administration cave in? Hasina government should not venture into air force whims to the detriment of our marvellous masterpiece of JS complex.
Nasirullah Mridha There is no need for a political show down. The matter is over in my eyes. The metro rail project will be dropped, most likely, due to donor disagreement on the proposed alignment based on which assistance from Jica was received. Japan needs internal rebuilding for its own collateral damage caused by the earthquake etc. The nation would appreciate a more active role of lawmakers for updating the colonial laws and start deliberation on electoral reforms and political reforms before politics becomes a basis ofr democratising the country.
Faqrul Singapore Changi Airport is connected with MRT system. It also passes by the Paya Lebar Airport which is used by Singapore Air force. Singapore Air force is equipped with F16 planes including other latest aircraft. Singapore Air force didn't complain about the MRT system. I fail to understand why Bangladesh Air force is complaining about the Metro system to run by Tejgaon Airport. Old airport buildings are 70 feet i high and so are the hangers. MRT system will not be more than 35-40 ft in height and it cannot be of any problem, what even a layman will understand. Government should be firm.
Iqbal Hussain The focus should be on the benefits of mass people and the country. Anyone's ego should not hamper the project. Please do not delay in deciding the route as Jica may back out.
