Twins kill 'robber' for 'self-defence'
Two brothers "in self-defence" killed a robbery case accused as they came under attack of his gang near Pirpur rail crossing in Bazitpur upazila yesterday, police said.
With the murder, the number of killing incidents in the district rose to four in a week since last Friday (October 30).
Police said the deceased, Rabi Mia, 25, was son of Md Hamid Mia of Pirpur village in Kuliarchar upazila. He was accused in a robbery case with Kuliarchar Police Station, Officer-in-charge Md Aminul Huq said.
Local sources said the accused robber along with 3-4 of his accomplices waylaid Md Nasir Mia, 20, and Md Basir Mia, 20, near Pirpur rail crossing as the twin brothers were going to Sylhet on a rickshaw from Bazitpur. As the attackers fell on them with sharp weapons, they captured a machete and chopped Rabi to death on the spot. The other attackers immediately fled the scene.
Nasir and Basir suffered stab injuries and were taken to Bazitpur Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital. They told police that the attackers snatched away two mobile phone sets and Tk 2000 from them.
Golam Rahman, officer-in-charge, Bazitpur Police Station, said he could not say specific reason behind the killing as police were investigating if the twin brothers had any links with the attackers or otherwise. The two brothers are under police watch in the hospital, he said.
Md Hamid Mia, father of Rabi Mia, filed a murder case against the two brothers with Bazitpur Police Station.
