Termination of 32 Grameen Bank staff challenged
Thirty-two employees challenged the legality of their termination from the Grameen Bank.
Former officer of Grameen Bank Shahjahan Mia and 31 other terminated employees jointly filed a writ petition on October 9 with the High Court in this regard.
In response to the writ petition, the court yesterday issued a rule upon the government and Grameen Bank authorities to explain in four weeks why the termination of its 32 employees in the name of voluntary retirement should not be declared illegal.
The employees in their petition claimed that the bank authorities had terminated them at different times between 2004 and 2008 without serving them any show cause notice and without following the due rules of law concerned.
Bangladesh Bank governor, finance secretary and managing director of Grameen Bank and six others have been made respondents to the rule.
Advocate Zahirul Islam appeared for the petitioners.
