Stop robbing the people

The other day while watching a documentary on the facebook about the massacre of unarmed civilian population of Dhaka, the then capital of East Pakistan, made by a British journalist, then a resident of Hotel Sheraton, made me feel sorry about the plight of the helpless people and also about the beautiful Dhaka lost for ever. The fountain at the Shahbagh junction made me nostalgic and I traveled back in time, I began comparing the present day Houston with the then Dhaka. To be honest, with whatever memory left in me, I could hardly find any difference between the present day Houston and the then Dhaka. I could also recall the claim of exploitation made by the founding leaders of Bangladesh against the West Pakistani rulers. It is 40 years into independence, who is exploiting the people now? Is it any foreign power or is it the corrupt leaders? If it is not the foreign powers, then definitely it is the corrupt leaders of the country who are exploiting the nation. We need leaders like Mahathir Muhammad of Malaysia or Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore. Of course, Bangladesh has made tremendous progress over the last 40 years and the credit goes to the people and not to the political parties who form the government. To be honest, I have not come across such magnificent buildings in Houston that I have seen only in the recent past before leaving Dhaka three months ago. These are superstructures and not infrastructure. I am afraid without any solid infrastructure, these magnificent superstructures may come down anytime. So improvement and development of infrastructure is a prerequisite. And in order to do so, the political leaders have to stop robbing the people and only then can we hope to get true prosperous nation as was promised by the founding leaders.
