Torture on Rumana
HC asks cops to submit report by Nov 13
The High Court (HC) yesterday asked Detective Branch of police to submit a report on the investigation into the incident of torture on Dhaka University (DU) teacher Rumana Manzur by her husband by November 13.
The court passed the order after accepting a report from the government that said the case regarding torture on Rumana was handed over to DB police from Dhanmondi Police Station.
On June 5, Rumana, an assistant professor of International Relations of DU, became the victim of brutal attack of her husband Hasan Sayeed Sumon.
Sumon was arrested in this regard on June 15.
The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Md Nuruzzaman yesterday also directed DB police to make a statement on the latest position of Rumana in the investigation report.
Earlier on June 15, the bench issued a suo moto rule asking three police to submit the progress report on the investigation into the incident.
Deputy Attorney General ABM Altaf Hossain represented the government.
