The government has allowed around 6,000 eager persons to perform hajj as replacement of pre-listed pilgrims who had earlier deposited money and completed formalities but finally would not be able to go to Saudi Arabia due to unavoidable circumstances like illness and accidents. The executive committee of the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) at a meeting last night finalised a list of some 6,000 people as replacement. "We will hand over the list to the Hajj Officers. They will finally arrange visas from the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka," HAAB secretary general MA Rashid Shah Samrat told The Daily Star last night. He said a record over 1.8 lakh devotees from Bangladesh will perform hajj this year. Samrat said another 659 eager hajj pilgrims of two travel agencies, which failed to sign hajj agreement for being blacklisted by the Saudi government, will also be able to send the devotees. Badarpur Travel and Air Land Travels will now send the pilgrims under two newly registered travel agents, he said.
