Sarah Begum Kobori, Awami League lawmaker from Narayanganj-4 constituency, yesterday said that Shamim Osman, one of the front-runners of the Narayanganj City Corporation mayoral race, had been intimidating her and Ivy. Earlier, she told the BBC Bangla Service that 'political elements' in Narayanganj were constantly harassing her. When The Daily Star rang up Kobori, she said “I cannot even perform my duties as a member of parliament since Shamim Osman and his gangs of cadres are obstructing me all the time.” “I am really worried about my personal security but still I shall work for my country, my party and also for Ivy and for democracy,” she added. “If someone wants to do politics in the subcontinent, (it seems) one has to have gangs of cadres and money,” Kobori told the BBC while answering a question about the political situation in Narayanganj. “What I understand from politics is a duty to serve people and love the country. But I have been subjected to constant threats,” she said, adding “I am really fed up and now in agony with the politics of Narayanganj.” “Ivy (who is also contesting the City Corporation mayoral race) is also being intimidated all the time,” Kobori said.
