6 killed,14 hurt in Tangail road crash
Six people were killed and 14 others injured when a bus lost control and ploughed into a crowd of people on the Bangabandhu Bridge approach road in Kalihati upazila of Tangail yesterday.
The deceased are Md Babu, 24, Chan Miah, 40, Tula Miah, 40, Md Mosfata, 45, and Afsar Ali, 40, of Salla Charpara village in the upazila, and the bus supervisor Abu Bakar Siddique, 50, of Pabna.
Tapash Chandra Pandit, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station, said a crowd of local people rushed to the spot at Salla where the chassis of a Pabna-bound truck was lying broken due to a collision with another truck earlier.
All of a sudden, a Dinajpur-bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan from Chittagong ran into the crowd and hit the truck, the OC said. Both the vehicles fell into a roadside ditch, he added.
The injured were admitted to Tangail General Hospital where condition of five was stated to be critical.
Police seized both the vehicles.
