Nursing college students boycott classes

Staff Correspondent, Ctg
Students of Chittagong Nursing College boycotted classes and examinations indefinitely from yesterday demanding that exam results be published within three months and permanent teachers be appointed for specific subjects. The students alleged that the results for the examination they took more than one year ago are yet to be released. They also said they are forced to spend 900-100 hours on clinical practice in a year though it should be 404 hours according to the institution rules. The students' other demands include allotting specific time (hours) for clinical practice and theory, constructing hostel for male students, creating library facilities, and showing specific reasons why around 80 percent students fail every year at the institution. Around 350 students are studying at the institution, which offers four-year BSc degree in nursing under Chittagong University. Meanwhile, the college authorities vacated four women hostels yesterday terming the demands illogical, said Mohammad Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge, Panchlaish Police Station. The principal could not be reached over phone despite repeated attempts.
