Police arrested a teenaged boy and his friend at Shewrapara in the city's Mirpur yesterday for trying to realise ransom from his father by pretending to be kidnapped. A case was filed against the duo and two other friends -- Shanto, 20, and Raju, 20, in this connection. The boy Ishtiaque Ahmed alias Sajal, 18, is a second year student of Dhaka Commerce College and used to reside in a rented room of a building in East Shewrapara. Officer-in-Charge Kazi Wazed Ali of Mirpur Police Station said police, disguised as Sajal's relatives, took Tk 2 lakh demanded as ransom to the foot over bridge at Shewrapara around 3:00pm. There they arrested Sajal's friend Mohammad Rubel, 20, who came to take the ransom, and then Sajal from a nearby tea stall. In preliminary interrogation, the duo said one of the friends, posing as the abductor, called Sajal's father Munshi Golam Mostafa over phone on October 16 and demanded ransom. Sajal claimed he was abducted and cried to his father for the money, they said. Sajal said he was expelled from college and wanted the money to go on a visit to India.
