A group of rights activists yesterday vowed to continue movement unless its demands including the removal of the communications and shipping ministers are met. “We demand the guarantee of natural death, and observed different programmes to press the demand. We are firmly determined to achieve the goal even if resistance or threat comes in", columnist Syed Abul Maksud said at a rally. The programme was organised by “Chhatra-Shikkhak-Peshajibi-Janata” (students, teachers, professionals, and people) at the city's Central Shaheed Minar with a seven-point demand that includes removal of all corrupt ministers and officials, ensuring natural deaths of people, stopping issuance of 24,000 driving licences, and modernising the licensing process. Speakers at the rally said the movement is not against the government or in favour of any political party, but someone has to take the responsibility for the sorry condition of the roads and highways. So they are demanding removal of the minister concerned, they said. Hamida Hossain, a human rights activist, questioned the activities of the communications and shipping ministers, saying that one is busy with his business while another is busy with leadership in transport sector. She viewed that a discussion over the budget and expenditure of communications sector should be held in the parliament. Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) leaders Ruhin Hossain Prince and Sajjad Jahir Chandan, Bangladesh Workers Party leader Bimal Biswas, Dhaka University teacher Robaet Ferdous, and sculptor Rasa, among others, addressed the rally moderated by actor Rokeya Prachi. Meanwhile, Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital yesterday organised the third virtual blood bank activity at Central Shaheed Minar for people injured in road accidents in remembrance of Tareque Masud and Mishuk Munier.
