<i>Axes in relief packets</i>
Patharghata upazila administration yesterday seized 242 boxes of relief items containing axes (locally called Chinese Kural) and handed them over to the joint forces.
Acknowledging the fact, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (in charge) Sohel Hasan said Rotary International distributed the relief boxes and the axes were packed with other relief items for use as tool for housing reconstruction and removing fallen trees.
The local administration noticed the matter after the recipients of the relief packets sold the axes in the market or to other people.
Local administration officials talked with the donors about possible misuse of the sharp weapons and seized the relief packets.
Over one thousand relief packets with axes have already been distributed and local administration asked those who received the packets earlier to handover the axes to the local UP chairman, the UNO in charge said.
