AGM, 2 others held for staging 'robbery drama'
Police on Friday night arrested an assistant general manager (AGM), a deliveryman and a van driver of Barisal branch of Sundarbon Courier Service for staging the January 17 robbery at the office.
Following a case lodged on January 17, 2007 stating that armed robbers looted Tk 4 lakh in cash and kind from Barisal branch of Sundarbon Courier Service on Club Road in the city early morning that day, police arrested night guards Faruk Matubbor and Abdus Sattar.
Under interrogation, Faruk Matubbor claimed innocence and said his boss Fazlul Huq, 37, assistant general manager, in charge of that branch staged the planned robbery with the help of Enamul Huq Ripon, 24, deliveryman, and Jafar Khalifa, 35, delivery van driver.
Police arrested the three persons and sent them to Barisal jail after recording their confessional statement during face-to-face interrogation of the all arrestees yesterday.
Fazlul Haq, Enamul and Jafar also revealed to police that Aziz, Mukul and Akkas, three listed criminals of Jessore town, helped them in staging the robbery and the looted items were sent to Jessore with their help.
The gang is involved in stealing valuable items from the packets sent by courier service from different parts of the country, police said.
