Tourism fair for whose interest?
According to a newspaper report, another tourism fair is going to be held in Dhaka. And as usual, foreign tour operators will come and sell their tour packages. We will buy them and thus drain the country of millions of dollars.
The organisers may say that this is in the interests of developing tourism in Bangladesh. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which is the official carrier of the show, will give 25 percent discount on tickets for its routes from Dhaka to Hong Kong, Bangkok, New Delhi, Karachi, Kuala Lampur, Singapore, Kathmandu and Kolkata; not to Dhaka from those places.
Does it mean that if people of Bangladesh fly from Dhaka to those destinations, then Bangladesh tourism will be benefited? And does it also mean that Bangladesh tourism will not be benefitted if they give discount on the tickets from foreign lands to Dhaka? Bravo, Bangladesh Biman and the fair organisers, for your concept of development of tourism in Bangladesh!
