Dividing Dhaka city!

Nur Jahan, Chittagong
We are beginning to feel sorry for the Awami League-led government. The AL government is doing and saying things that show how distraught it has become. The government is putting forward many reasons why the caretaker government system should be abolished, but people are no fools. They know very well that Awami League has become afraid of losing the next election. Now comes the surprising news that the government has approved a proposal for dividing Dhaka into two city corporations, with a view to ensuring better service delivery. But eminent citizens, experts and people in general think that it will not work and will create more problems. The mayoral election of Dhaka City Corporation was postponed as long as possible, and now it cannot be delayed anymore. So, the government has decided to split it in two so that if the present Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka is re-elected, there will still be someone of Awami League's choice. How unfortunate! For their selfish desire for power they are not hesitating to divide the city. We protest this move. The government must listen to the people, because the country belongs to them.
